My Vision

My mind has been interchanging real life images, with imaginary images of the same subject matter generated visually and emotionally during my day. This is the process, which initiates my excitement. I am in a constant search for more information to allow me to continue on this journey to solve the myriad of questions and challenges that seem to constantly come to me as I ruminate my next piece of art.

When I stand in front of my paper, or canvas, I try very hard to let the medium dictate what it wants from me. I am always determined not to start with the thought of how I can control the medium. Interestingly, with this approach I am almost always thrilled by the spontaneity the medium provides and sometimes a total surprise is the result. With this approach there is much more opportunity for emotional and intuitive interaction. Emphasize what the pigment can do, rather than what you can do to the pigment and visual excitement will be the result. I paint and consciousness awakens.

Recently, as you can see by my work, I have been very involved with expressing the textural side of paint and its effects. I love to see different things happen spontaneously and try very hard at all times to have that happen on my paper or board.

I paint in acrylic, oils or watercolour. The medium of choice depends on my feeling and strength at that time. Watercolour is a very free medium initially and can get very intricate as the painting progresses. Acrylic paint colour I find rather exciting, and I love to play with acrylics. Oils I find produce the most beautiful depth and at the same time texture and richness of the medium and are such a pleasure to work with.

My work comes from the choices I make, combined with the contributions made by the media when allowed to perform to its fullest potential. To me this is an unbeatable combination that creates a sense of freedom while allowing the control that I need to make paintings with my own personal feelings.

To create is to move into the unknown - to move into the mystery of yourself, to have feeling, to awaken buried perceptions, to be alive and free without worrying about the result. You can be free from every rule and exception. I like to have music while I 'play' as it helps the creative process.
